Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team previously emphasized how much their client's life was in danger while behind bars, but now we're hearing what he went through before he was convicted.
According to a report TMZ published on October 22, the music mogul woke up to a knife pointed at his throat by an inmate who snuck into his prison cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The story was revealed by one of Combs' close friends, Charlucci Finney, who shared the details of the incident with the Daily Mail.
"I don't know whether he fought him off or the guards came, I just know that it happened," Finney recalled.
"If this guy had wanted to harm him, Sean would have been harmed," he continued. "It would only take a second to cut his throat with a weapon and kill him."
Finney's story comes after Combs' attorneys raised the issue of the Bad Boy Records founders' safety during his sex trafficking trial over the summer. His defense attorney, Brian Steel, brought up an instance in which an inmate tried to use a shiv to intimidate Combs but was stopped by a guard.
"Sean has kept a lot of this stuff to himself because he doesn't want to worry his family," Finney explained. "But if you're in jail and you've been charged with anything sexual it's not a good place to be. The prisoners take it personal. They look at it like, it could have been my mom, my auntie, my daughter. They try to get what they call prison justice. And you have to understand, we are not talking about a regular person. We're talking about Diddy."
In the weeks leading up to his sentencing, his lawyers asked the judge to recommend a new facility for Combs to serve his sentence. They originally requested a low-security venue in New Jersey. Unfortunately, Judge Arun Subramanian asked the Bureau of Prisons to keep Combs in New York. As of this report, Combs has not been assigned to a facility.
